This old stone cottage, built in the
traditional Ikarian style, still stands in the centre of the village. I
don't know who owns, or owned it, but no one lives in the cottage any more.
However, there are hundreds of old cottages like this still standing on the
island, and many older Ikarians in particular, still live in them (see below).

Below, another old stone house in Petropouli. Someone is
still living in this one judging by the well maintained condition of the
exterior paint work. The slate roof may look rough and ready, but it does the
job of keeping the rain out.
